Ecommerce content gaps: turn competitor research into tasks
A content gap is a useful question your store can answer but currently does not. It is not simply every keyword or page a competitor has and you lack.
Scan your site free1. Identify competitors in actual search results
Search several queries that matter to your products in your target market. Note whether the results are stores, publishers or marketplaces. Your business competitors and your organic-search competitors may differ, so compare pages with similar intent rather than only similar brands.
2. Compare the buyer task
Read what each page helps a visitor do. Record clear specifications, selection advice, useful comparisons and unanswered questions. Do not copy text or imitate claims you cannot substantiate. A large rival's broad coverage is not proof that every topic suits your business.
3. Check what you already have
Map each potential gap to your existing categories, products and guides. Improve thin or outdated sections when a suitable URL already exists. Creating a new page for a small wording difference can split effort and confuse visitors.
4. Score the opportunity honestly
Record relevance, evidence, commercial fit and publishing effort. Use country-specific keyword data when available; mark missing demand or difficulty as unknown. Trendifyn's competitor analysis and priorities can support idea selection, but its AI estimates are not a measured keyword-gap database.
5. Build a differentiated brief
Explain the question, the evidence your team can add, the intended page and the next useful product link. Ask for verified specifications, original examples or helpful photos. Use a content blueprint to organize the brief, then review accuracy before publishing and measuring results in your own tools.
